This week we had a Hispanic heritage celebration . The kids enjoyed chips, salsa and tamales. We danced the Mexican hat dance and made maracas. We have also been studying bats. Please check out our bat wall at conferences. This week we tied our pumpkins into the plants we have been studying last week and then we met the bats. During our pumpkin time we cut open a pumpkin to see what was inside. We compared pie pumpkins to carving pumpkins. We had pumpkin seeds and pumpkin muffins. We also ready several stories about pumpkins and wrote about how to carve a jack o lantern. You can see our pumpkin life cycle readings and pictures on seesaw. Tune in next week to see what we know about bats. This week we studied stems and leaves and other parts of a plant. We collected leaves and made leaf rubbings. We learned that plants drink their food through straws in the stem. Then we watched water move through a celery stem. We looked at the chlorophyll in leaves that makes them green. During this week we ate lettuce leaves. Thank you to our cooks for helping us with our unit. |
