The second graders performed a play about the first Thanksgiving. Some were Pilgrims and other were Indians including the Chief and Samoset. We learned that the Pilgrims and Indians did not eat turkey but did eat duck. So we changed our play to reflect that. The kids did a great job.

One of the stories we read during this past week is The Silly Turkey Party. It is the third in a series of books where the main characters, who are turkeys escape Thanksgiving. Ollie, Wing and Cassie have raced away from Farmer Joe and Farmer Kate in The Great Turkey Race and returned to rescue their friends in The Amazing Turkey Rescue. Here are the picture of our turkey party. We had pumpkin pie instead of rice and beans. Happy Thanksgiving! Our Thanksgiving unit includes what it was like to travel fro 66 days on the Mayflower. There were 102 passangers adn 30 crewmen. Here we are in the hallway with the same dimensions of the Mayflower discovering what it would have been like aboard ship. It was noisy, stinky and crowded the kids decided. Our dads who came for Donuts with Dad helped us make and disguise the Thanksgiving turkey. We read Run, Turkey Run and then made disguises for our turkeys. Thanks to all of our dad and grandpas who helped out. It was a lot of fun! As part of our discussion of November words we had a discussion about what is a veteran. Some of us did not realize that a Veteran was a person. As a result we had Veteran come to visit us. It was terrific. Thank you very much to the VFW post in Morton for our flags. The kids loved them. As part of our Halloween celebration we built skeletons out of qtips and we read the story The Spooky Hour and The 13 Days of Halloween. Here are some of our Halloween celebration pictures. |
