We spent several afternoons doing Christmas STEM activities. We built card houses for an elf out of Christmas cards. Another day we built sleds and raced them down the slide. Another day we made elf traps. On Polar Express Day we had a candy cane experiment, built train tracks and jingle bell mazes. It was great fun. Lastly we built devises with our brainflakes and straws to get our little dog from the Elf Memoirs home. It was a great week. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a restful break! See you in January!

This week we learned a lot about reindeer. For example, they dig holes in the snow for food with their hooves and their antlers on a boy reindeer and larger than on a girl reindeer. We also learned about the Reindeer rebellion and Olive the other reindeer, but our favorite was Santa's Reindeer games. We read about them and them played them on Friday afternoon. Here are some of our pictures! This week we celebrated Christmas in Australia and Sweden and we had some trouble with our elf. He turned down our heat in hopes that he would get some hot chocolate. Thankfully Mr. Larry was able to fix our heat and we had hot chocolate. We also learned that in Australia Santa's sleigh is pulled by 6 white kangaroos. We also learned about several animals like Koala's that live there. Watch out for our elf, Elmer. He tends to get us in trouble.
This week we started our Christmas Around the world Unit and looked at traditions in the USA and Germany. Germany has given us the traditions of gingerbread men and Christmas trees. So we ate gingerbread men and made Christmas tree ornaments. On Friday we celebrated Grinch Day with heart cookies, Grinch pudding and punch. We played pin the heart on the Grinch and made marble mazes to get the Grinch back to Whoville to deliver the gifts.
