Echolocation is how bats "see" in the dark. If you haven't heard this song from you child this week I am amazed as they sing it every day. This week we studied bats. One of the things we looked at is how they are different from birds. We also looked at their life cycles, how they are built and what they eat. This week we also painted pumpkins as part of our monthly celebration and dressed up as bats. Here are our pictures.

This week we read I need my monster. As part of our fresh fruit and vegetable grant we had and read about creepy carrots. We hunted both monsters and creepy carrots this week. We finished our study of spiders and made spider webs. This week we worked with nonfiction and studied spiders. The kids learned that they don't all spin webs. They aren't all black. They do some amazing things. Here are our pictures from this week. This week we read and learned about what to do when we are cranky. We learned from Crankenstein. We were also lucky enough to learn about pumpkins and have ones of our own. We carved a pumpkin to see what the inside and seeds were like. We tried the seeds, some of us liked them, some didn't. We learned about how they grow. Thank you to Mrs. Preston for bringing us our pumpkins. We had a great time!
As part of our A Vistor for Bear story we had a tea party. Suprisingly, the kids really liked the tea. This week we have been practing our basic skills playing bump, and leanring about bears, plants and trees. We even had some acorns left by our visiting squirrel Twitch. We also made leaf rubbings. This week we learned about apples and Johnny Appleseed. We made homemade applesauce. We did a stem activity where we balanced apples. We did an experiment where we discovered which liquid kept the apple from turning brown the best. Here are some of our pictures. This week we learned about pirates. We read about them and wrote about them. We also dressed up one day as pirates and we made pirate ships. During our ocean unit we learned that some sharks and whales eat seals. On Friday we did our first stem activity for Saving our Seal. Here are our pictures. We also made shark hats while we studied sharks. This week in math we have been working with place value. Here are some pictures of Place Value Bullseye and Toothy that we have been playing to practice. This week as a celebration we had snow cones outside. It was very fun even if we had to stand apart!
